Mid Ocean Club
One of my all time favorite vacation destinations is Bermuda. With spectacular beaches and golf courses, it is literally one of my favorite places in the world.
Bermuda is typically a summer destination, but if you want somewhat cooler temperatures while still being able to swim in its beautiful waters, consider an early Fall trip.
The only drawback to traveling to Bermuda in the Fall is, yes, it is hurricane season. But, this also allows for some slightly better hotel rates as well.
There are three legitimate golf courses on the island, and seven overall.
Port Royal Golf Club
Port Royal, Mid Ocean and Tucker’s Point are the three you will want to play on any golf trip to Bermuda.
All three offer spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean as well as good tests of golf. Port Royal and Mid Ocean have both hosted PGA Tour related events in their history.
Another fun option is the Turtle Hill Club, an 18 hole par 3 course that is ranked as one of the top 5 par 3 courses in the world.
Where to stay in Bermuda
If your vacation to Bermuda is strictly to play a few rounds of golf and enjoy a couple nights on the town, then look no further than the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.
Located in the capitol city of Hamilton, it is effectively at the mid-point between Mid Ocean and Tucker’s Point at the east end of the island, and Port Royal at the west end.
If you also want a couple options near Bermuda’s spectacular beaches, then I recommend Elbow Beach and the Fairmont Southampton.
Elbow Beach, in my view, is the best beach in Bermuda, and one of the best in the world.
The Southampton Princess gives you access to Turtle Hill Club, and is next to Horseshoe Bay, another great beach.
Both properties offer restaurant options nearby and onsite.
I should note that the Southampton Princess was set to undergo major renovations that were announced in 2019 that were postponed due to the pandemic. Be sure to check on the status of the property before booking.
If you do end up staying at the Fairmont Hamilton, and still want to get a day at the beach, they offer a ferry to the Fairmont Southampton where you can enjoy their private beach, or walk next door to Horseshoe Bay.
When to go to Bermuda
To enjoy the beaches, the best time to go to Bermuda is from about mid-June to early October. May is an excellent time to go if you just plan on playing golf.
As I mentioned, early Fall is an excellent time to go for less humid weather and water still warm enough for swimming.
My absolute favorite time to go is early August when the island celebrates Cup Match… the final for its national cricket championship. It’s one big party!
